Balancing Law and Force

After watching the movie The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence the quote “Law without force is impotent; force without law is blind" By Blaise Pascal, I realized how important laws are in society and what can happen without enforcement. I interpreted this quote as without force, society wouldn’t see laws as important enough to abide by. By enforcing laws, people are able to understand there are consequences to unlawful actions. Without enforcing them people would be doing whatever they wanted and chaos would ensue. While using enforcement for these laws, it has to be done in a lawful way. Therefore, law and force are both necessary as there isn’t one without the other. This quote is an example of why it’s important that there are laws in place for different business practices. Laws put in place for businesses are made to protect everyone that is involved. This is exactly why it is important for businesses to follow the laws, without doing so it becomes dangerous for everyone involved which almost always causes havoc. For example, all businesses have to have worker compensation. This law is put in place to protect employees who are working for the business. If this wasn't enforced, employees could get seriously injured on the job and have to pay all medical and other expenses on their own.

I liked how you integrated an example of some consequences provoked by a business not having laws or regulations enforced. It is very important to have force and law work together in order to function because without enforcement there would be no control. I also like the quote you mention because is very true law without enforcement is of no use. There needs to be people willing to defend the law which will create a major force against those who violate the law.

The government assigns qualified people to enforce law; one agency crated to regulate business and individuals is United States Environmental Protection Agency “Congress authorizes certain government agencies - including EPA - to create regulations.” In order for a law to be effective people need to enforce it.

I like the way you interpreted the quote. I feel like usually when people think about enforcing the law they usually apply it to crime. It's nice to be reminded that the law can promote good things for people too.

I really liked how you explained your personal interpretation of the quote, and how you intertwined both the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and the quote so seamlessly. I completely agree with what you are saying, and that all laws are there for a reason. The main reason being to keep the public safe.
